La guida che avete in mano ha due anime, che si palesano sin dal formato editoriale. Il libro unisce due percorsi che si sono incrociati nelle escursioni fatte sul Conero da più di venti artisti provenienti da tutta Europa, guidati nell’esplorazione da WuMing2 e Federico Clavarino, due tra i maggiori protagonisti della scrittura e della fotografia italiane contemporanee. Nell'arco di diversi mesi questo gruppo di esploratori ha raccontato le storie di un blocco di pietra che, milioni di anni fa, s’è staccato dagli Appennini per fermarsi a est, in riva al Mare Adriatico. E se è vero che gli Appennini sono la spina dorsale d’Italia, allora il blocco fuggitivo del Conero – unico promontorio roccioso nel bel mezzo del litorale sabbioso dell’Adriatico – è il suo cuore, un cuore di pietra.

La prima anima, quella in bianco e nero che avvolge e contiene l’altra, è prettamente narrativa: vi suggeriamo di fruirne così come è stata pensata, scegliendo uno dei luoghi indicati nella mappa che trovate nel cuore del libro, e, una volta arrivati, accomodandovi sullo sperone più a ridosso del mare o nel prato più soffice per leggere, da soli o a voce alta, il racconto che uno degli scrittori ha ambientato esattamente dove siete. Non troverete storie patinate: ognuno degli artisti ha scelto il tema e lo stile non per ricordarvi l’evidente bellezza dei luoghi esplorati, ma per condividere con voi l’esperienza più autentica che ha vissuto o sentito raccontare dagli abitanti e dagli sherpa che li hanno accompagnati.

La seconda è, invece, un’antologia da sfogliare liberamente durante la vostra gita: ciascun fotografo ha individuato un tema che lo ha accompagnato nelle camminate all’interno dell’area segnalata nella mappa dalla macchia gialla. Quando avrete bisogno di una pausa o semplicemente vorrete un consiglio su come guardare in modo nuovo le meraviglie paesaggistiche e culturali in cui vi imbatterete, aprite la sezione a colori del libro e lasciatevi trasportare dai progetti fotografici che sono stati realizzati per ampliare le vostre percezioni.

Se state per intraprendere la vostra escursione in solitudine, avrete la sensazione di essere accompagnati da un amico che condividerà con voi le sue visioni del Conero; se siete in gruppo potrete anche decidere di sciogliere il libro dalle mollette che lo tengono insieme e approfondire, ciascuno rispetto alla propria sensibilità, una modalità di fruizione diversa dell’opera d’arte collettiva che state sfogliando.

Non vi resta che mettervi in cammino e lasciarvi trascinare in quest’esperienza totalmente inedita.

The guide you have in your hands has two souls, which are evident from the editorial format. The book combines two paths that have crossed over the excursions made on the Conero by more than twenty artists from all over Europe, guided in the exploration by WuMing2 and Federico Clavarino, two of the main protagonists of contemporary Italian writing and photography.
Over several months this group of explorers told the stories of a block of stone that, millions of years ago, detached itself from the Apennines to stop in the east, on the shore of the Adriatic Sea. And if it is true that the Apennines are the backbone of Italy, then the fugitive block of the Conero - the only rocky promontory in the middle of the sandy Adriatic coast - is its heart, a heart of stone.

 The first soul, the one in black and white that surrounds and contains the other, is purely narrative: we suggest you use it as it was thought, by choosing one of the places indicated on the map that you find in the heart of the book, and, once you arrive, settling on the spur closest to the sea or in the softest grass to read, alone or out loud, the story that one of the writers has set exactly where you are. You will not find glossy stories: each of the artists has chosen the theme and style not to remind you of the evident beauty of the explored places, but to share with you the most authentic experiences that they have lived or heard from the inhabitants and Sherpas that accompanied them.

 The second is, instead, an anthology to browse freely during your trip: each photographer has identified a theme that has accompanied them on walks within the area indicated on the map by the yellow spot. When you need a break or just want some advice on how to look in a new way the scenic and cultural wonders you come across, open the coloured section of the book and let yourself be carried away by photographic projects that have been created to widen your perceptions.

 If you are about to embark on your excursion by yourself, you will have the feeling of being accompanied by a friend who will share his Conero visions with you; if you are in a group you can also decide to free the book from the clips that hold it together and deepen, each with respect to their sensitivity, in a style of fulfilment different to the collective work of art that you are leafing through.

 There is nothing left but to start walking and let yourself be dragged into this totally new experience.
