Our 2018 and highlights for a year to come

Hello everyone, to celebrate our 5th year of life we decided to start this blog.

Here you will find contents around our publishing activities like bookmaking process, fairs, news and events together with insights on our books and interviews by our artists and designers.
So this is the first post ever and we want to resume our 2018 but also give you some anticipations of our 2019.

Last year started with PRISM INTERIORS, the first book by Piero Percoco aka The Rainbow is underestimated.

The book has been edited and designed by Jason Fulford, and it’s now near to be sold out.
We are now working on a second book by Piero to be published on Spring 2019.

This time the object will be completely different, and will include more than a hundred of pictures.
Piero will be exhibited as part of an emerging talent focus during Photo Wien 2019.

After more than a year of work, on May 2018 fInally IN QUARTA PERSONA saw the light.

The project by Martin Errichiello and Filippo Menichetti was exhibited in several festivals like TRIENNAL OF PHOTOGRAPHY HAMBURG, SIFEST FESTIVAL, COPENHAGHEN PHOTO FESTIVAL, FORMAT FESTIVAL, PLAT(T)FORM, KRAKOW PHOTOMONTH, FOTOGRAFIA EUROPEA among the others and won several awards including FOAM TALENT, PREMIO PESARESI, PREMIO GRAZIADEI and PREMIO FABBRI (Shortlisted).

It has been for sure one of the most challenging book we ever made.

The project was instead quite complex, with a lot of different materials used by the artists (large format pictures, video and audio documents, archival materials and so on).

We asked Nicolas Polli to join the working team and he added a great value to the bookmaking flow.
We think Nicolas is one of the most talented young designers in the field of photobooks and we are really proud to had the chance to have worked with him.

In the Spring/Summer we added two important events to our usual participation at the international fairs as NYABF, UNSEEN, PARIS PHOTO and ARLES.

We have been invited to attend for the first time SAN FRANCISCO ART BOOK FAIR, and UNFOLD in Shangai. In both the occasions we made a talk focused on the Italian artists we published in the recent years.

Following the idea of keeping on publishing emerging Italian artists we decided to include in our catalog INDEX G by Piergiorgio Casotti and Emanuele Brutti.
Despite its strong concept and content, we must admit that at the very beginning we were quite worried about this book. It’s a very demanding project for the reader.
We really liked how Fiorenza Pinna decided to put the pictures on pages and how she worked on the sequence and materials choices.

In the end we thought it was the right moment to do a book like this, and now we are super proud to have in on our catalog. We like to mention that Paul Graham nominated this book as the best of the 2018 and he received a lot of attention by experts and critics.

September was the time of Michael Schmelling. We have always been fans of his work, and when he contacted us we were quite surprised.

YOUR BLUES is a deep journey into the Chicago underground music scene. Michael received a commission from The Museum of Contemporary Photography of Chicago were in 2014 the work has been exhibited.

The book follows a musical structure and it has been entirely designed by the artist himself. It also contain a beautiful text by Tim Kinsella who helps to reader to get into the mood of that context. Your Blues has also been the occasion to collaborate with one of our favorite publisher “The Ice plant” with which we co-published it

In the same period TROPHIES by Simone Bergantini came out.

This time a conceptual work found a space in our catalog. Simone is one of the most interesting Italian artists using photography as a research field more than as a way of express himself. The work will be exhibited in the 2019 and we cant’t really wait to see how the output will be.
The production has been supported by Galleria Pack which represents Simone in Italy. The book is a very elegant object, designed by Davide&Golia.

After the collaboration for “In Quarta Persona” we decided to participate to another great project by Nicolas Polli.
“FEROX - THE FORGOTTEN ARCHIVES” is his first photobook as an artist.
Of course designed completely by him it explores the borders between fiction and reality, pushing the discussion to the limits of photography as a medium.

FEROX has been shortlisted for the Aperture First Photobook Prize. We are so glad to have been included in this prize for the first time, and once again grateful to Nicolas to make Skinnerboox part of his incredible project.

In November we started an important collaboration with one of our favorite book designer Hans Gremmen. The occasion was the third book by the artistic duo Vittorio Mortarotti & Anush Hamzehian.

MOST WERE SILENT is a project the artists developed in New Mexico were the first experiments on the atomic bombs were made. The book is constructed in a very unusual way, with most of the pictures in the left page, to emphasize a sense of suspension in which the themes of memory, war and ways of seeing at things and landscape influence each others to build a deep and touching visual poem.

The work has already been exhibited in Turin and Bologna. A new show is scheduled for March 2019 in Rome.

After the big success of WOLFGANG by David Fathi we decided to publish a second edition of the book designed by Ramon Pez.
The content of the book is exactly the same of the first edition but it’s softcover and it’s sold for a very affordable price.

Near the end of the year we took part to one of the most weird project of our publishing life.
NO MORE NO LESS by Thomas Sauvin and Kensuke Koike.

3 different publisher were asked to make 3 different editions of the same book, to be launched during Paris Photo, on the same day. It' has been really challenging and we are really proud to be part of it.

The design of the book was entrusted to Federico Carpani. The result is a kind of Leporello obtained from a single offset sheet to strength the concept of No more No less as in the Koike practice.

The books as been nominated several times as one of the best photobooks of 2018
